  1. PSALM 51 • Introduction • For the director of music. A psalm of David. When the prophet Nathan came to him after David had committed adultery with Bathsheba.

  2. Holey • PSALM 51:1-4 NIVHave mercy on me, O God, according to your unfailing love; according to your great compassion blot out my transgressions. Wash away all my iniquity and cleanse me from my sin. For I know my transgressions, and my sin is always before me. Against you, you only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when you judge.

  3. Holey • PSALM 51:5-9 NIVSurely I was sinful at birth, sinful from the time my mother conceived me. Surely you desire truth in the inner parts; you teach me wisdom in the inmost place. Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean; wash me, and I will be whiter than snow. Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity.

  4. “There is nothing you have done • or could ever do that could make • God love you less. Nothing.” • What might your “white ball” be? ??

  5. Romans 8:38-39 NLT • … I am convinced that nothingcan ever separate us from God's love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God's love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothingin all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

  6. 1 Peter 3:18 NIV • … Christ died for our sins once for all, the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God. He was put to death in the flesh but made alive by the Spirit. • COMMUNION • Remembrance & Renewal

  7. Holy • Almighty God, the God of David, • our Savior, our Lord is the holy God of… • unfailing love verse 1 • great compassion verse 1 • righteous judgment verse 4 • purification & renewal verses 7 & 10 • restoration & sustenance verse 12 • worship worthiness verses 15 & 19 • broken people He loves to embrace verse 17

  8. Wholly • PSALM 51:10-14 NIVCreate in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. Then I will teach transgressors your ways, and sinners will turn back to you. Save me from bloodguilt, O God, the God who saves me, and my tongue will sing of your righteousness.

  9. Wholly • PSALM 51:15-19 NIVO Lord, open my lips, and my mouth will declare your praise. You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it; you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings. The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. In your good pleasure make Zion prosper; build up the walls of Jerusalem. Then there will be righteous sacrifices, whole burnt offerings to delight you; then bulls will be offered on your altar. • .

  10. Wholly • PSALM 51:12 NIVRestore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.

  11. Psalm 51Holey = getting caught (in our sinful shame)Holy = God’s unfailing love & great compassionWholly = coming clean (in honesty, obedience and praise)
