Parts of Speech • Apreposition shows relationship • Examples: in, above, with, around, on, from • A conjunctionjoins words, phrases, and clauses together • Examples: and, or, but, because, so • An adverbdescribes verbs and adjectives • Example: She ran home quickly.
Reader’s Workshop:Parts of Speech • As you are reading today, find an example of a preposition, a conjunction, and an adverb in your book. When you find one, write down the entire sentence in your notebook. Underline the word. • After you have written down the words, write down why it is a preposition, conjunction, or adverb. • We will now be reading independently. Remember, reading is thinking, so we must remain silent during this time.
