The Agency for Workforce Innovation (AWI) is dedicated to advancing the economic well-being and self-sufficiency of all Floridians through premier early learning, workforce and unemployment services. Driven by the needs of Florida’s businesses and citizens, AWI partners with a dynamic statewide system, resulting in an array of programs and partnerships, that further assists the Agency as we prepare Floridians of all ages today for the jobs of tomorrow.
Governor Rick Scott signed HB 7005 into law on June 27, 2011, implementing several reforms to the Unemployment Compensation (UC) program that will save the state money, reduce taxes on employers and help get Floridians back to work.

Claims FilingEffective August 1, 2011 • Claims must be filed online. • www.floridajobs.org • www.fluidnow.com
Weekly CertificationEffective August 1, 2011 • Claims must be filed online. • www.floridajobs.org • www.fluidnow.com • Claimants are required to contact five potential employers weekly and provide this information online during their biweekly certification for benefits. • Meeting with a One-Stop representative for re-employment services may satisfy this requirement for that week.
Skills AssessmentEffective August 1, 2011 • Claimants filing new claims must complete an initial online skills review.
Benefits PaymentsEffective July 1, 2011 • Claimants receiving benefits by paper check as of July 1, 2011, may continue to do so until the end of their claims. • New claims filed after July 1, 2011, will be paid through state-issued debit card or direct deposit.
Duration of BenefitsClaims Effective January 1, 2012 • The maximum duration of benefits will be 12 to 23 weeks. • Duration of benefits is indexed to the state’s unemployment rate. • Available Credits cannot exceed $6,325.
Applying Onlinewww.floridajobs.org • Effective August 1, 2011, the only way to file for unemployment compensation benefits is online at www.floridajobs.org. Follow link on lower right “File for Unemployment.” • Direct access to claim form at www.fluidnow.com. • When the online application is completed, patrons should double check their information to make sure it is correct. They will receive a confirmation number when form is submitted.
Basic Information Needed Before Filing • Claimants will need to have ALL of the following information: • Their full, legal name. • Birth date. • Full address including the zip code and county. • Their Social Security Number and Alien Registration Number.
Basic Information Needed Before Filing • Claimants will need their employment history for the last year and a half, including: • Employers names and addresses. • Dates worked there. • The exact last day of employment.
Basic Information Needed Before Filing • Claimants will need to provide the total amount of any holiday pay, sick pay or severance pay received at the end of their employment. • If claimants received a pension from any employer, they should know the date they began receiving that pension and the amount received each month.
Military or Federal Employment Did the claimant serve in the military or work for the federal government? • If claimants were in the military, they will need a copy of their DD 214 “member 4” form, which is their record of service and discharge. • If they were civilian federal employees, they will need their Standard Form 8 (SF8). This form provides the address of the payroll office from which our agency can request wage and separation information. • Their Standard Form 50 (SF50) may also be needed, which tells AWI where their duty station was.
How long will it take to complete the application? • It typically takes at least one hour for claimants to file an unemployment claim. • This can vary widely depending on how the claimant answers the questions asked of them. Claimants have 72 hours to complete their application.
How long will it take to receive a decision? • After the claim is filed the claimant should receive a wage transcript and determination letter within 10 days. • The letter will advise the claimants if they are monetarily eligible for benefits and if so, how much they can expect to receive. Claimants can expect to receive a notice to remind them to certify for their biweekly payments. • The claimant will receive a booklet explaining their rights and responsibilities. • If AWI has any follow-up questions, the claimant will be contacted at the phone number provided during the claim application process.
After the Claim is Filed... • Claimants certify weeks on a biweekly schedule. • Claimants certify every other Monday or Tuesday, depending on the last digit of their Social Security numbers. • Even Digit - Monday • Odd Digit - Tuesday continued…
