  2. TEXT: Ephesians 4:30-32 • There are many characteristics of a healthy Christian family relationship that we allow the Lord to accomplish in our lives as we mature spiritually. Three of these are:

  3. I. The power to put away • A. Bitterness – a bitter root which produces a bitter fruit (1 Tim 6:10; Heb 12:15; Eph 3:17) • B. Wrath – anger which boils over • C. Anger – inner anger which causes us to want to get even (causes bitterness to grow) • D. Clamor – constant noise of shouting at one another • E. Evil Speaking – speech which slanders another’s good name • F. Malice – evil which causes us to desire to injure

  4. II. The power to “put on” • A. Kindness – to be useful and good toward one another • B. Tenderheartedness – to be able to show compassion • C. Forgiveness – to no longer hold the past against a person

  5. III. The power to accept one another • A. On the basis of God’s grace (Romans 15:7) • 1. By living in love, not in fear (1 Peter 3:6 • B. In two ways • 1. To grant access to our heart and take into our true friendship • 2. To give a person the freedom to belong and to feel cherished (Rom 14:1-3; Heb 12:14-15; Eph 3:17
