Background • Group of 3rd class student‘s (20) came to the hospital every morning for practical work. • Period of practical work: 2 weeks. • Current activities and teaching method. -- If the real patient is available, the most important task of the students are:
Cont: • Taking history • Physical Exams -- If the real patient is not available, the teaching methods are as the following: • Mini lecture about the sign and symptom, • discussion between students and teacher.
Current Clinical Practice of Students • Taking history • Physical Exams • General • respiratory system • Cardiovascular system • Abdomen • Genitourinary system • Nervous System
Goals and Objectives • Implementation of CBL in Medical Education for 3rd class students in Internal Medicine Objectives • Standardization of teaching method • Integration of lecture and practice • Increasing motivation for learning
Implementation Plan: • Starting time: Sept. 2007 (When a new school year starts) • No. of 3rd class students: 80 • No. of students rotating: 20 • No of groups in each rotation: 4 • Period of practical work for each group: two weeks in internal medicine ward
Cont: • Activities: • Taking history • Physical Examinations • Time for Students to self learning from the patient and gathering their information with each other and discussion.
Cont: • If the real patient is not present: • We use students as a standardized patient instead of real patient and perform all above activities

Assessment Plan: • Practical Examination include: • Taking History • Physical Examination as a direct observation of the Lecturer
