  1. The opening to section 1 Starting on page 66 in your text, re-read the passage that starts with “And at last, it its curved and imperceptible fall” through “spectral illumination of moonshine” on page 68. Be prepared to answer some questions on the passage. You’ve got 3.5 minutes. Hop to it.

  2. Question 1: • Look at the first paragraph. What mood is created?

  3. Question 2: • Re-read the first three sentences of the second paragraph. Describe the river and the mood it creates.

  4. Question 3: • In the second paragraph, a man who has “followed the sea” is likely to be what?

  5. Question 4: • Look at the second paragraph and re-read the section starting with “It had known and served all the men…” to the end of the paragraph. Name three literary techniques that are used.
