Introduction • Statistics Botswana • Autonomous body under the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning since April 2012 • Operates within the jurisdiction of two (2) key legal instruments - Statistics Act (Cap 17:01) and Census Act (Cap 17:02) • Mainly funded by the Government; also assisted by domestic, regional, and international bodies and partners. Performance monitored and overseen by the board. • Has two arms in the organizational structure for statistical production; namely the Socio-Economics and Statistical and Technical Operations

  5. Introduction (Cont’) • PHC - 10 years interval consistently since 1971 • Botswana Census, 1971, 1981, 1991, 2001, and 2011 • Next census 2021 • Botswana population was 2,024,094 from 2011 Census • Growth rate was 1.9 based on 2011 Census. • Projected population is 2,266,857 as at 2017
