Welcome to 7th Grade Pre-Registration 2017-2018
Pre-Registration Forms • Registration Packet: • Pre-Registration Form (Two sided) • One side has the registration instructions • The other side is where Electives are selected • Update Required Online: PowerSchool Parent • Forms Due Date: Friday, February 24th • Turn forms in to your Science teacher • Forms MUST be signed by parent or guardian
Complete Registration Form • Print your full legal name (not nickname) and fill out top section of the form • Parent Initials immunization section • Mark elective choices • Once PowerSchool information has been updated, check that it has been completed. • PARENT’S SIGNATURE – Very Important Course Description Book • The school website www.westada.org/MMShas a course description book with class descriptions available. From the MMS homepage, click on Parents & Students, then click on Registration. • This is where you can get more information about all of the required and elective courses.
REGISTRATION CHECK-LIST • Online Information Update is REQUIRED and done at home Through the PowerSchool parent account.Ask your parents to contact your counselor if they need help. • Returning the registration form is also REQUIRED. If the Online Information Update is not completed or you do not turn in your Registration form, you will not get the elective classes you want and may end up in lunch detention.
Electives on the Registration Form • On the Registration form number the elective choices 1, 2 for semester electives or (1,2) for year long electives. • In case space is not available in one or more of your elective choices---you must make alternative selections for your elective choices. Number them as 3 and 4 on the Registration Form. • If you do not choose alternatives and space is unavailable ---electives will be chosen for you!!

Beginning Art • Semester class • What Will I Learn? • fundamentals of drawing, • painting • crafts • art history and More! • You must take this class FIRST in order to take pottery & sculpting and/or drawing & painting.
Drama/Communications • Semester Class • What Will I Learn? • drama through performance • communication, criticism, and more! • Presentations may include: pantomime, oral interpretations, Reader’s Theatre, mini plays, radio theater speeches and puppetry
Family Consumer Science I • Semester Class • What Will I Learn? • chose, buy prepare and store nutritious food • Kitchen safety • measuring skills • table manners.
Family Consumer Science II • Semester Class • Pre-Requisite: Family Consumer Science I • What Will I Learn? • Students will build on skills learned in Family Consumer Sciences I
ComputerExplorations I • Semester Class • Prerequisite: Completed and passed Keyboarding • What Will I Learn? • word processing • editing, changing layouts, proofing • columns and tabs • search and replace • database, spreadsheets
Video Game Coding • Semester Class • Pre-Requisite: Computer Explorations I or Teacher Recommendation • What Will I Learn? • Computer coding concepts • animation skills • game design skills • development of a web site presence • generating phone apps
Choir • Year Long Class • What Will I Learn? • singing, music reading • performance skills • Participation in evening concerts and the District III Music Festival is required.
Concert Band • Year Long Class • Who Should Take This Class? • students with two years of successful band training • What Is Expected of Me? • Students are expected to practice at home and provide their own instrument and method book. • participate in evening concerts and the spring District III Music Festival.
Orchestra • Year long course • Who Should Take This Class? • students with a minimum of one year playing experience with violin, viola, cello, or string bass

Peer Tutor • Semester Class • What Does a Peer Tutor Do? • Peer tutors assist students with special needs one-on-one. • What Kind of Student Makes a Good Tutor? • Peer tutors must be kind and caring, accepting of other’s feelings, and be willing to take directions from others • Limited availability (4 or 5 students) • How Do I Sign Up? • Mark this selection on your registration form
Who do I turn my pre-registration form in to? • Science Teacher • When is the form due? • Friday, February 24th • What if my form comes in late or I don’t turn my form in? • You will not get the classes you want and may end up in lunch detention • What if I know I’m moving and won’t be here in 7th grade? • Fill it out anyways • Why do I have to choose alternatives for the electives? • Space is limited • What if I don’t choose any alternatives for the electives? • We will choose for you
