Summary of MKI UFO MD 3.7.2012 LSWG Meeting Maria Hempel T. Baer, M. Barnes, S. Bart Pedersen, S. Cettour Cave, B. Dehning,E. Effinger, R. Giachino, E. Griesmayer, M. Hempel, A. MacPherson,G. Roy, G. Trad, J. Uythoven MKI UFO MD
MD Plans Plan: • Inject 1236 bunches (half with large emittance, half with small emittance) • Pulse MKIs on gap in circulating beam to produce UFOs (alternating B1/B2) • Study UFO rate and dynamics with anti-e-cloud solenoids on/off • Study UFO rate and dynamics for different MKI pulse lengths • Make diamond BLM measurements from UFOs (1ns time resolution) • Make BLM measurements with study buffer (80µs time resolution) Real program: • 18:00 access (AC dipole, amplifier for diamond BLMs in Pt.7, etc.) • 20:12 start the machine protection test procedure (no beam in LHC) 2h delay • 21:14 test procedure finished, preparing for injection • 22:38 BLM beam dump during 144b injection, TL steering and refill • 0:51 1236 bunches circulating (660b with ~3µm·rad and 576b with ~1.5µm·rad) • 1:10 start pulsing MKIs • 1:53 MKI flashover beam dump • 1:57 open ventilation door access, precycle • 4:30 pilot injection Many (unrelated) technical problems we could only measure 42min
Measurements Emittance measurement of all bunches (two different emittances) with BSRT Measurement or injection losses with diamond BLM in Pt.7 UFO in BLM study buffer. Started in MKI.D5R8 Slow risetime and fast decline Data to be analyzed…
MKI Flashover • Disabled anti-e-cloud solenoid • Led to higher pressure flashover in MKI.C5R8
