Challenges • Rapid growth • Antiquated systems and operations within multiple distribution centers • Integrate into a single new facility using common material handling and systems infrastructure • Aggressive schedule encompassing fewer than eleven months from ground-break to completion What Sedlak Did • Designed and implemented a new distribution center to meet the demands of forecasted growth, while providing the capability to expand beyond the initial planning horizon • Recommended an integrated solution to complement a material handling design supported by a warehouse management system • Developed and managed material handling bid design and information system processes and recommended vendors • Oversaw information systems configuration, testing, and training • Identified and recommended practical alternatives for all functional areas of the facility • Met all demands of an aggressive schedule through proactive project management Results • Implemented a plan to seamlessly transition to the new distribution center • Coordinated all aspects of the material handling and information systems to bring the facility on line, on time and under budget • Initial build of 770,000 sq.ft. with expansion capabilities to 1.1 million sq.ft., including 2.5 miles of conveyor and two high-speed sorters 1
