Emerald Ash Borer • What is emerald ash borer?Emerald ash borer is an exotic, invasive beetle that belongs to the metallic wood-borer family. It infests and destroys native North American ash trees. Approximately 20 million trees have been killed since 2002. • Where did emerald ash borer come from?Emerald ash borer is an insect native of Asia. It was introduced by accident into Michigan via infested ash crating or pallets. • How long has emerald ash borer been in the United States? In Kansas? In Johnson Count?Emerald ash borer was first discovered in the United States June 2002 in the Detroit area. The beetle was first found in Kansas Aug. 29, 2012 in Wyandotte county. As of 7/2013, there have been 5 cases of EAB in Johnson county. The nearest infected tree to Oak Hill was at 81st & Switzer
