The Elements of Art • It is important that every artist understandthe Elements of Art. Any person that creates visual art uses them in one way or another, but it is not until they truly understand the elements, unless by accident, that their art works become successful. • The purpose of this slide show is to introduce you to these very important Elements of Art. It will take a lot of practice and analysis of your work to become a successful artist.
The elements used in art are found everywhere in nature. All you have to do is look around. • Line– is a mark drawn with pointed moving tool; the trace of a moving point. • Shape– a two dimensional area that can be geometrical or free form. • Form– are objects having three dimensions. • Space- the area around or within objects. • Color– is derived from reflected light. • Texture– the way an object feels, or looks as if it might feel it you touched it. • Value– is the element of art that describes the lightness or darkness of an object (shadow) .
Line– is a mark drawn with pointed moving tool; the trace of a moving point. There are five kinds of lines. Horizontal Vertical Diagonal Curved Zigzag
Shape– a two dimensional area that can be geometrical or free form. Shape lacks depth and value.

This is one way to visually create three dimensional objects. This drawing uses multiple point linear perspective to create depth.
Texture– the way an object feels, or looks as if it would feel it you touched it.
Value– is the element of art that describes the lightness or darkness of an object (shadow) .
