  1. Personal Project Written Report Take notes!!!

  2. Structure of the Report • Organize your report based on following criteria: • Investigating • Planning • Taking action • Reflecting • Review the criteria to see how you will be graded. • You must also have an introduction and conclusion • Word count: 1500-3500 words

  3. Criterion A: Investigating i. Define a clear goal and global context for the project, based on personal interests ii. Identify prior learning and subject-specific knowledge relevant to the project iii. Demonstrate research skills

  4. Criterion B: Planning • i. Develop criteria for the product/outcome • ii. Plan and record the development process of the project • iii. Demonstrate self-management skills

  5. Criterion C: Taking action • i. Create a product/outcome in response to the goal, global context and criteria • ii. Demonstrate thinking skills • iii. Demonstrate communication and social skills

  6. Criterion D: Reflecting • i. Evaluate the quality of the product/outcome against your criteria • ii. Reflect on how completing the project has extended your knowledge and understanding of the topic and the global context • iii. Reflect on your development as an IB learner through the project

  8. Introduction • Introductory remarks explaining the vision and scope of your project • Briefdescription of your project and how it relates to global contexts & ATLs addressed. Explain why you chose them and how they relate. • State your goals for the project.

  9. Investigation • Discuss how your goals and global context(s) guided your project. • Draw research from a variety of sources. Include in-text citations from at least 5 sources. These can include: • Interviews • Websites • Books • Magazines, etc. • Make sure sources are not all the same type.

Planning • Explain your planning steps. • What, Where, When, Why, How • Look back to your process journal! • You are required to make your own criteria on which to judge your project as well. • If you never did this, be sure to ASAP by making a rubric. • You must discuss this criteria in the planning section of your report.

  11. Taking Action/Implementation • Explain how you implemented your planning steps. • Explain how your product met your goal, global context(s) and criteria. • Were you effective? • Why or why not?

  12. Reflection • Did your project meet your goals, criteria and global context(s)? • Summarize the progression of your experiences and feelings, including the ups and downs. • How have you grown as an IB learner? Conclusion: • Final thoughts summing up the experience.

Title Page and Report Formatting Title MYP/Personal Project Supervisor: name Your name • 12 point standard font • Double-spaced • 1-inch margins • Last name and page number at top corner of page. • No bolding or larger font anywhere! • Remove extra spaces between paragraphs • Indent paragraphs

The Written Report: Works Cited Google MLA format and find the OWL at Purdue website. * They have the format for absolutely every type of source you can possibly have. * Include any interviews, websites, books, magazines, recordings, films, video games---EVERYTHING you used. * If for any reason you can’t find it, check with me for the correct formatting.

  17. The Written Report: Appendices These are attachments you place at the end of your paper. • They can be: • Pictures of the process • Samples of materials • Rough drafts of project • Preliminary sketches • Interviews

Journal Extracts: Appendices • In order to demonstrate your development in all criteria, you must submit 10 extracts from your process journal as appendices in your report. • These 10 extracts represent the key developments of your project. • Select extracts that demonstrate how you addressed each of the objectives, or annotate to explain.

  20. Final Product • Presentation is important. Make sure your product, journal and paper are: • Neat • Organized • Clean

Turning in the project • Give your project, report, and journal to your supervisor in an organized and self-contained manner. • MAKE SURE YOUR NAME IS ON EVERYTHING. • EXAMPLE: • In a gift bag/paper grocery bag with everything inside. • Check with your supervisor if the size of your project prevents this. NO PLASTIC BAGS! • DON’T WALK IN ON THE DAY IT’S DUE AND THROW ALL YOUR STUFF ON YOUR SUPERVISOR’S DESK!!!

  22. Finally • Make sure to have your supervisor sign your timeline as receipt of the project and then hand in to me. • You will also hand in the blue MYP projects academic honesty formto me. • Do not ask your supervisor about the grade. Your final grade will be revealed AFTER everything is recorded. • Personal Project is worth 50 pts in this class. • Due March 4th!
