8th Grade Math CRCT2013 - 2014 INFORMATION TIPS AND TRICKS
Welcome…….. It is hard to believe, but CRCT is right around the corner. We would like to take this opportunity to thank our students and parents for all of their hard work and support. This presentation will give you a brief overview over standards taught and how they are represented on the CRCT, followed by helpful tips to prepare your child for success.
Standards taught and their CRCT weight Algebra = 41% • Understand the connection between proportional relationships • Analyze and solve linear equations and system of equations • Define, evaluate, and compare functions • Use functions to model real life problems Geometry = 27% • Understanding congruence and similarity (reflections, translations, rotations, dilations, and angle relationships with parallel lines cut by a transversal) • Understanding and applying the Pythagorean Theorem • Solve real-real world problems involving volume of cylinders, cones, and spheres
Standards taught and their CRCT weight Numbers and Operations = 20% • Understanding the real number system and work with rational and irrational numbers. • Understanding and computing with square and cube roots. • Understanding and applying exponential laws. • Understanding and computing with scientific notations. Data Analysis and Probability = 12% • Investigating patterns in bivariate data. • Construct and interpret scatter plots. • Finding the line of best fit. • Understanding two-way tables and frequencies.
What does it take to meet or exceed on the CRCT…. The Math CRCT in 8th grade consists of 60 questions. Here is the break down for meet and exceed:
What do we do to support your child’s journey to success? School initiatives: • Please monitor the school’s website for helpful CRCT links. • East Coweta Middle School will again be hosting the very popular two week long CRCT Blitz covering all domains. This will take place after school from 4 to 5 pm. We will announce dates shortly.
What do we do to support your child’s journey to success? Teacher initiatives: • We offer weekly tutoring sessions to help prepare your student for the CRCT. • We incorporate daily CRCT practice problems and helpful test taking skills into our lessons. (Ask you child what they have learned today! )
What can I do to support my child’s journey to success? • Have a daily conversation with your student about what they have learned in class. • Ensure that your child studies daily and completes his or her homework assignments. • Check teacher’s websites or Edmodo for updates and helpful tips.
