Apple Computer, Inc. • Apple INC is an American Multinational Corporation headquartered in Cupertino, California that designs, develops and sells consumer electronics, Computer Software and personal computers.
History • Apple was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne on April 1, 1976 to develop and sell personal computers. It was incorporated as Apple Computer, Inc. On January 3, 1977, and was renamed as Apple Inc. on January 9, 2007.
Economy • Apple is the world's second-largest information technology company by revenue after Samsung Electronics and the world's third-largest mobile phone maker after Samsung and Nokia. September 28, 2013 Apple revenue was $ 37.5 billion and quarterly net profit of $ 7.5 billion.
Size • Apple maintain 408 retail store in fourteen countries. • As of September of 2013 the company had 72,800 permanent full-time employees and 3,300 temporary employees.
Foxconn • As most of the U.S. Companies Apple engaged in FDI, even though Apple is an American company their goods are fabricated in China by Taiwan’s Company called Foxconn. Foxconn is the world's largest electronics contractor manufacturer, and the third-largest information technology company by revenue.
Issue 1 • Foxconn (Apple Company) have many underage employees, as young as the age of 13 and most of the children working in the factory are women. The legal working age in china is 16; this issue should be taking action by child labor Act.
Issue 2 • Foxconn’s pay is very low, an average of $100 per month. • The employees who work there are also forced to live in the Foxconn facilities with random strangers.
Issue 3 • Foxconn makes children work for an average 66 to 75 hour per week and Foxconn does not pay them for the extra hours they work.
General Issues • The company can produce more than 10,000 iPhone per day. • There are over a million workers in one factory and the working conditions are so dangerous at these factories. • There have been explosions in the factories that have resulted in many injuries and deaths. • The company workers are not treated well.
Prevalence • The Foxconn Company has very high suicide rate • in 2009, nine Foxconn workers jump off from the building and killed themselves • A total of 18 employees took their lives by jumping from the building in 2010. • Foxconn has now made a contract for the new workers that state they will not commit suicide.
Conclusion • The Foxconn Company needs to be inspected for human right violations • Unless addressed, the issues and prevalence will grow rapidly Click Here for Video
