  2. Welcome to Third Grade! • I am looking forward to another exciting third grade year at Dodge. Third grade is a transitional grade that introduces your child to new concepts and requirements such as multiplication, cursive handwriting,4paragraph papers, and ARMT to name a few. Your child will never be bored in third grade!

  5. Teaching Philosophy Every child can learn though he or she may learn in many varied and unusual ways.

Technology Students will utilize technology on a daily basis: AR Testing, Filming, Photography, Voice Thread, Video Conferencing Using Microsoft programs to create products such as: brochures, flyers, Power Points, Photo Stories, calendars etc. • Asheet will be sent home with internet resources and students’ usernames & passwords.

  14. Weekly Newsletters All newsletters will go home on the first day of the week; unless there is a problem with the school’s copier or printer. Two Ways to Receive Your Child’s Newsletter & Important Class Announcements: A hard copy in your child’s Take Home Folder Word document as a attachment in a group email to all parents Check emails daily for any announcements.

  15. Take Home Folders • Students will be furnished with a durable plastic Take Home Folder. • Students are responsible for taking home and returning folders back to school. • Please be sure to check Take Home Folder every evening.

  16. Homework Planners Homework planner- Through Title 1 funds Dodge furnishes the first planner. If your child loses his/her planner then you will to be responsible for getting your child another planner. Be sure to initial & check homework nightly.

  17. Homework • Students will have 30-45 min. of homework on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday • I willinclude in my weekly newsletters students’ reading/spelling homework for the week but you must still check planner for homework in math and other subjects.

  18. Conduct & Work Study • Your child will have a conduct & work study calendar attached to his/her homework pad weekly. • Students receive two weekly grades for conduct and work study. • This must be signed nightly by a parent. If not signed consecutively for 2 or more days then student will receive a HW for everyday it is not signed. 80%-100%= S Satisfactory 70%-79%= N Needs Improvement 69% or below=U Unsatisfactory

  19. Classroom Community • Our classroom is a community. In our community, we have rules to help us get along with each other. • Our class rules are: • Be respectful and responsible. • Be organized and follow directions. • Be on time. • Be prepared.

Consequences for Undesirable Behavior Depending on the severity and my discretion and administration the following will happen: • Verbal Warning • Mark in calendar • parent notified through note or phone about behavior A conference may be scheduled. Student may lose a privilege according to the severity of the misbehavior such as: Buying snack from office- Student may have snack from home or fruit from the fruit cart when available. CHAT activities- Student will have to sit out and observe and not participate in games played in class during Fun Friday. 4. Office Referral/Parent Contacted by Adminstration

  21. Tardiness • School starts at 8:00 A.M. • If your child isn’t in the classroom by the time the second bell rings, your child is marked tardy. If you are more than 15 min. late please sign your child in at the office. • If your child must go to the dentist or have a hair cut; please make the appointment after school.

  22. Absenteeism • Students who miss school miss a lot. • Please limit absences! • I understand children get sick. Please notify the office ASAP if your child will miss school. I will have a missed work packet for you to pick up for your child to complete at home.

  23. Missed Tests & Graded Assignments • All school tests and assignments for a grade must be completed in three days of your child returning back to school. • I will remind students about his/her assignments in their Missed Work pocket.

  24. Teacher/Parent Conferencing • It is required for me to conference with all of my students’ parents. I have to conference once during 1st and 2nd semester. • If you would like to request a conference; please send a note with your child. If you haven’t receive a message about a date & time in your child’s folder within 2 days then call and leave me a message in the office. • Conferencing needs to be scheduled if you need an in-depth conversation about your child’s grades and behavior.

  25. Field Trips Third grade usually has two field trips every year. No New Orleans Field Trip! I can not release details of a potential field trip until it is officially approved. Chaperones must ride the bus and follow school rules as if on school campus.
