  4. Comparison of Traditional Farming to Aquaculture Aquaculture provides fish to restock streams, lakes, and ponds. Provides fish for food.
  5. Aquaculture Activities In aquaculture, 5 main activities are performed – 1. Hatchery 2. Grow-out 3. Harvesting 4. Marketing 5. Processing
  6. Aquaculture Activities Defined HATCHERY “to Hatch” Produce the seed or young fish used to stock growing facilities
  7. Aquaculture Activities Defined GROW-OUT Facilities produce crops (fish) from the seed. Land-based = ponds, tanks, runways Water-based = pens, cages, ranching
  8. Aquaculture Activities Defined HARVESTING Gathering or capturing of the fish for marketing and processing.
  9. Aquaculture Activities Defined MARKETING Connects producer with the consumers The purpose of marketing is to provide the producer with a price to cover production and make a profit. 5 MARKETS 1.
