IDENTITY as a Personal Item of Clothing • Students will study IDENTITY as depicted in clothing by Jim Dine, Vincent van Gogh and Frida Kahlo • Art History based upon Pop Art, Post-Impressionism and Surrealism • Students will create a series of works depicting their IDENTITY as clothing
IDENTITY as Personal Item of Clothing Based upon the following: Jim Dine “BATHROBE’ series Vincent van Gogh “Shoes” Frida Kahlo “My Dress Hangs Here”
Jim Dine: Artist Facts • Jim Dine was born in 1935 • He moved to NYC at the beginning of the POP ART movement • He created a series of paintings and prints using his RED BATH ROBE • Dine has used the BATH ROBE motif since the 1960’s to the present

Vincent van Gogh • Vincent van Gogh was born in Holland in 1853 • Van Gogh is a Post-Impressionist • He painted in IMPASTO (thick paint) • “Shoes” was painted in 1886 • He created more than 10 paintings of shoes
Frida Kahlo • Frida Kahlo was born in Mexico 1907 of Mexican Indian & German heritage • She was the second wife of Diego Rivera • Her body of work is primarily about her IDENTIY represented in numerous self-portraits, often dressed in Tehuantepec Costumes and dresses
