  3. Quiz Next Monday September 14th, 2010 • Quiz will be open notes and you will work individually (by yourself) • If you have notes and handouts from classes up to this point you will do fine • This PowerPoint will be a guide to what you need to know for the quiz

  4. What are interests? • Interests can be defined as your favorite activities • Examples of Interests are hobbies, activities, or subjects • Interests can be categorized into people, data, things, or ideas

  5. People, Data, Things, Ideas • People: helping others, teaching, making friends, babysitting, team sports, etc • Data: record keeping, surfing the Internet, reading, experimenting, or researching • Things: building or fixing things, cooking, working with your hands, and lawn care • Ideas: writing stories or music, painting, inventing, and playing a musical instrument

  6. What is attitude? • Attitude can be defined how a person reacts to certain situations • Attitudes can be characterized as positive or negative • Ask yourself how do positive and negative attitudes affect outlooks on life

  7. What are values? • Values can be defined as the ideas a person lives by and the beliefs that are important to that person • Ask yourself why values are important

  8. The different types of Values • Relationships-being close to friends • Responsibility-being dependable and trustworthy • Achievement-wanting to succeed in whatever you do • Compassion-caring for others • Recognition-wanting to be respected and appreciated • Courage-overcoming fear to face problems

What is personality? • Personality can be defined as a persons feelings, actions, habits, and thoughts • Examples of the four categories: • Actions – Helpful, playful, charming… • Feelings – Happy, sad, glad… • Habits – talk fast when nervous, twirl hair when thinking.. • Thoughts – wishful, positive, negative…..

  10. What are learning styles? • Learning Styles can be defined as the different ways people naturally think and learn

  11. Types of learning styles • Verbal-learns by saying • Logical-learns by categorizing • Visual-learns by seeing • Musical-learns by rhythm • Bodily-learns by touch • Interpersonal-learns by sharing with others • Intrapersonal-learns by working alone • Naturalistic-learns by working outdoors

  12. What are skills? • Skills can be defined as the ability to perform a task due to training and experience • Two categories of skills are personal and transferable skills

  13. Personal skills • Mental Skills-creative writing, mathematics, memory • Physical Skills-gymnastics, aerobic exercise • Social Skills-conversion

Transferable skills • Communication skills: speaking and writing • Listening skills: sending and receiving messages • Problem-solving skills: handling conflicts • Technology skills: computer knowledge • Decision-making skills: making wise decisions • Organizing and planning skills: time management • Teamwork skills: working with team members • Adaptability skills: adjusting to change
