Analyzing letters from the past is one way of learning more from primary sources. • To understand more about what someone like George Washington was thinking after the Constitutional Convention we might want to look at one of his letters. • If George Washington wrote to his old friend Henry Knox would his letter look something like this?

Would George and Henry know how to read the previous letter? Why not? • Why is it hard for us to sometimes understand letters from people who lived many years ago?
