  3. A Heavily Guarded Tomb • A place of mourning and dispair-v.1 • A “watch” of Roman soldiers Matthew 27:62-66 • Covered by a very large stone Matthew 27:59-61 • A Roman government seal Matthew 27:66

  4. What the Guards had Already Seen • The suffering and death of Jesus • Darkness and an earthquake on the day Jesus died –Matthew 27:45,51 • One of their own commanders declaring Jesus to be “Son of God” Matthew 27:54 • Strictly warned to guard his body Matthew 27:65-66

  5. What the Guards saw Nextv.2-4 • A second earthquake • An angel descends from heaven, appearance of lighting, dressed in white, rolls back the stone and sits on it! • The guards so frightened they trembled and froze like dead men

  6. What the Guards Did?Matthew 28:11-15 • They ran! • They went to tell the High Priest what had happened

  7. The Choice? • Believe and repent- Romans 10:9 Acts 16:31- Philippian jailer • Harden your heart- Daniel 7:13 Mark 14:62 • Evidence doesn’t matter Luke 16:31

  8. A Faith Based on Facts • Jesus’ body was never found • Stealing the body highly unlikely! • The obvious change in the disciples Mark 14:66-72 Acts 4: 18-20 • Eye witness accounts from both friends and enemies of Jesus (over 500!). I Corinthians 15:3-9

  9. What Difference Does Jesus’ Resurrection Make? • Places Jesus and His teachings on a different level than other great religious teachers/leaders • It confirms the truth of Jesus teachings-”Just like he said” v.6 Mark 8:31;9:30-32;10:32-34 • Without the resurrection our faith is worthless I Corinthians 15:17 He literally rose from the dead! I Corinthians 15:20 The First Fruit of the resurrection Leviticus 23:12-13 Ephesians 4:8 John 11:25 • Not just future hope but power for today! Ephesians 1:19-20 Colossians 1:20 Christ in you!

  10. May we see His Glory Today! Ephesians 1:18 Go and Tell! Christ is Risen!
