Yugoslavia Marshall tito ruled Yugoslavia as a communist dictator from 1953 to 1980. Yugoslavia was ethnically diverse: Slovenes, Croats, Serbs, Albanians, Muslim Bosnians, Montenegrins and Macedonians lived in the territory.
Ethnic conflicts After tito’s death in 1980, republics in the territory began to push for independence. Conflicts arose because of long-standing ethnic tensions and non-recognition of a territory’s independence.
