  2. INTRODUCTION • What is Waterfront?- According to Oxford online dictionary, a waterfront is “a part of a town that borders the sea or a lake or river”

  3. GOAL • Starting in 2011 major of NYC in association with other departments had developed a revitalization and development program for NewYork City and called it PlaNYC • MAIN AIM OF THIS PROGRAM WAS:- TRANSFORM VAST NEGLECTED WATERFRONT LAND INTO ACTIVE, VIBRANT AND ECONOMICALLY PRODUCTIVE LOCATION.

PUBLIC/PRIVATE • New York city is famous for its diverse environment, this helped city to develop into such scale city. • Even today, they prefer to follow old techniques, developing varieties of function to both public and private sectors of waterfront rather than a homogeneous environment. • The public sector is vital for such city. Well, NYC already has 200 acres of public spaces and 14miles2 of public beaches.

  5. PUBLIC/PRIVATE • An example of future public place at waterfront of New York City

  6. LANDSCAPE • For the first time, Department of Urban Planning proposed a controversial proposal of having a unique landscape (greenery) instead of “concrete jungles” of metropolis .

  7. LANDSCAPE • Freshkill Park is another achievement of this project. It considers to have green zones from neglected areas of the city such as highway bridges, rooftops and midway roads.

  8. SUSTAINABILITY • Of course whole this program is about sustainability, however, this time greater attention will be given to Yachts and boats and exit at site. As well as increasing standards for vehicles, the pedestrian roads will be paid a big attention as well. • Thus, waterfront will have more humane scale.

  10. STREET as PLAZAS • Another extraordinary approach that’s going to be applied in the revitalization project of waterfront of New York city is situation or transformation of famous NYC streets that are a point of attention of many citizens into plaza.

  11. ARCHITECTURE • Of course architecture is expected to be vital as mother nature and fascinating waterfront itself. It should lighten coast of city and provide enough of public functions for society.
