INTRODUCTION Intelligent Energy - Europe Program (IEE) (2003 – 2006) • Intended to support the European Union’s policies in the field of energy as laid down in the Green Paper on Security of Energy Supply, the White Paper on Transport and other related Community legislations. • EU program for the promotion of energy efficiency and renewable energy sources. • Since 2005, the program is implemented by the new Intelligent Energy Executive Agency (IEEA).

General Objectives Contribute to a more sustainable energy future. Help to improve security of energy supply, competitiveness, and environmental protection. Help to implement EU policies and targets (Directives, Green Papers on Energy Efficiency and A European Strategy for Sustainable, Competitive and Secure Energy) Specific objectives: Promote efficient and intelligent patterns of energy production and consumption. Create the means and mechanisms to boost energy efficiency, renewables and energy diversification. Develop instruments to monitor and evaluate policy measures. OBJECTIVES
FIELDS OF ACTION Four main fields of action SAVE ALTENER Energy efficiency and rational use of energy, in particular in buildings and industry Promotion of new and renewable energy sources for electricity, heat, and bio-fuels STEER COOPENER Promotion of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency in developing countries Energy aspects of transport, fuel diversification, bio-fuels and energy efficiency
Sustainable Energy Communities. Think globally, act locally. Financing mechanism and incentives. Monitoring and evaluation. Dissemination and promotion. HORIZONTAL KEY ACTIONS
Implements the IEE program. Manages the projects and events organized under IEE. Disseminates the know-how and best practices. Fosters exchange and co-ordination between all players involved, and with national activities. Feeds back project results to DG TREN policy makers and helps the improvement of the program. BEST PRACTICES IN VALENCIAN REGION • PROJECT PROCURA • IEE - SAVE 2004 • 1.812.000 € • The overall objective of the Procura-proposal is: to promote the acquisition of Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFV) in the short term. • Procura will do so by tackling market barriers for the large-scale procurement of AFVs. Procura will focus on developing innovative procurement models (e.g. GreenLease, second-hand market development of AFVs) for private and public fleet owners. • Procura intends to carry out the following activities: • Collecting and disseminating best practices • Setting up dedicated procurement models • Setting up a large-scale procurement schemes

Several projects submitted with Valencian partners. Wide partnership in the Valencian Region, including technological institutes, municipalities, private companies, private-public bodies,… One foreseen submission “call for events” (deadline 28th April 2006).
