Keeping Your Faith Unit 1 Study 3 March 18, 2012
Get Real • Hebrews 10:26,27,30 • Hebrews 12:1-3 • Becoming a Christian does not mean we are free from temptation. • Rid our lives of everything that draws us away from God • God promises to forgive our sins and gives us the power to do what is right
Guidelines? • Hebrews 10:16-17 • God promises to place His guidelines within us and forget wrongdoing • God isn’t going to look the other way, instead He gives us a reason to stop sinning • Not just judgment for wrongdoing, He also gives hope for forgiveness and eternal life
It’s not THAT bad! • You may try to rationalize away consequences • Think about the cumulative effect
Get Going • Hebrews 6:11,12 • Through hard work and discipline, remain diligent and not become lazy • Hebrews 12:4-11 • He disciplines because He loves us
Discipline, Good or Bad? • Keeps us from harm • Less pain in self-discipline, but more difficult • We can’t be perfect, but live according to His instructions with His help
Flex Your Spiritual Muscles • If you are spiritually lazy or neglect your spiritual life, it can limit your growth and strength as a Christian • More difficult to mount a defense • Stay healthy
Get Together • Hebrews 3:12,13 • Hebrews 10:23-25 • Encourage and receive encouragement • Isolation is asking for trouble • Get together and receive support from God himself • We know what God expects of us and what He promises to do through us • Look to His Word
The Message • What • Avoid distractions, accept discipline, and maintain fellowship to encourage Christian growth • Why • Failing to put beliefs into action results in faith that lacks power and sincerity • How • Deal with sin, become disciplined, and spend quality time with other Christians
