Progress Made Category - COURSE ACTIONS Planted more trees between the 1st & 2nd fairways Added a marker post to the 5th & 14th fairway to highlight the dog-leg Separated the 6th and 15th tees with flower beds Made a feature of the 13th hole with flower beds and fencing Course signage is in the process of being upgraded Looking at opportunities to improve tee-signage Engaged with a Hydrologist to try and understand why the course is flooding in certain areas. Against the challenges of this!
Progress Made Category – MOTIVATED GREENS STAFF ACTIONS Regular meetings and discussion Acknowledgement of their concerns and ideas for improvement Purchased new, club branded uniforms Provided a re-vamped green keepers shed Celebrated Les’s 25 year service to AEGC Plans to develop the staff Computer literacy Supplier negotiation Against the challenges of this!
Progress Made Category – COST CONTROL ACTIONS Changed our buying processes Buying less in bulk Introduced the concept of a buying group Negotiated a better deal on the club buggy saving the club £2.5k over 3-years Reviewed and amended the greens staff contracts of employment Managed costs under budget Attempting to manage the risk of aging machinery Against the challenges of this!
Progress Made Category – OPEN COMMUNICATION ACTIONS Actively encouraging feedback from the membership about the state of the course. Using feedback to help target improvements. Sharing information and rationale behind decisions Improved communication between Greens Committee and greens staff. Using Council as the decision making forum. Newsletters on the website . Against the challenges of this!
Progress Made Category – IMPROVED EFFECIENCIES ACTIONS Updating the “course status” telephone message daily. Trying to keep the course open and create a longer playing season. Closed for 20 days in 2012, 8 of which were for snow. Clear ruling on use of mats in winter. Update course policies & procedures - Help here please Maximising the effectiveness of our greens staff at the times when we need them most. Management of winter programme Flexed their working hours Against the challenges of this! “We’ve always done it that way” So implementing any CHANGE may take time….

ConclusionsThe Role of the Membership We would ask our membership to please; • Help us keep the golf course maintained to a high standard • Replace divots • Repair pitch marks • Report damage • Engage with the greens staff and pass on your gratitude • Understand that we can’t do everything that perhaps we would like to given the financial constraints • Recommend areas of improvement • Be positive with your feedback • Accept that change is required to move our golf club forward THANK YOU
