  5. Other Interesting Facts We Learned • He lived for 53 years • He tried to be a officer but was told NO • Named National League Rookie of the Year in 1947 • Named National League MVP in 1949 • Played on the Brooklyn Dodgers for 10 years • Served in the Army for 2 years
