Rotary Club of Norfolk Save the Bay Community Service Project June 6, 2009
Thank You!! Our club's volunteers: 27 enthusiastic volunteers, including spouses and children Task: Clean up the creek area in East Ocean View near 5 blocks along Pleasant Avenue Tools used: Rakes, shovels, buckets, gloves, waders, sweat equity and one kayak Time spent: 3 hours Result: 2,810 pounds of trash collected and documented. We filled 85 big trash bags and left several piles of heavy debris for city trucks to collect Interesting finds: Lots of plastic items along with enough materials to build a house, a headless GI Joe, a bedraggled doll, beach balls, butane lighters, baseball bat and part of a surfboard. Overall Perspective: We were among 5,150 volunteers at the 21st Clean the Bay Day who cleaned 327 miles of Virginia waterway and removed 153,650 pounds of debris that otherwise have ended up in the Chesapeake Bay.
