  3. SURVEYDetermine the structure or organization of the chapter • Read title, introduction, summary, boldface heading and subheading, and questions at the end of the chapter. • Review any illustrations.

  4. QUESTIONYou are looking for something rather than looking at words • Turn each heading and subheading into ?’s • Use teacher’s and author’s ?’s • Do one section at a time.

  5. READREAD SELECTIVELY • Read one section at a time. • Find the answers to ?’s • Plan to read in a quiet area.

  6. RECITEANSWER THE ?’S IN YOUR OWN WORDS • RE-READ SECTION IF NECESSARY • TEST YOUR SHORT-TERM MEMORY

  7. REVIEWCUTS CRAMMING TIME BY 90% • Review ?’s from short-term memory and transfers to long-term memory • Identify important points from memory and fill in any missing points.
