Communication Better meetings for everyone
Before the Meeting – AGREED Service users and their supporters will not be allowed into the pre-meet after the start time. This is to make sure those who do get there in time aren’t disturbed by late arrivals
Before the Meeting – AGREED This means people with learning disabilities and their supporters should allow plenty of time for buses, trains, trams, parking etc.
Before the Meeting – AGREED There will be a set of ground rules sent in advance to all speakers to make sure they make their presentations and their talking easy to understand
Before the Meeting – AGREED Speakers’ ground rules be included in the Terms of Reference (the rules for how the Partnership Board should work)
Before the Meeting – AGREED We will ask speakers to supply a short paragraph in advance explaining in plain English what they will be talking about
At the beginning of each meeting - AGREED Geraldine will welcome everyone at the beginning, especially new members and visitors
At the beginning of each meeting - AGREED Geraldine will explain the ‘traffic light’ cards at each meeting
At the beginning of each meeting - AGREED Geraldine will remind everyone that it’s fine for people supporting service users to talk quietly to make sure they understand things
During the Meeting - AGREED Every person with a learning disability should have someone to support them if needed and this support should be one to one where needed.
During the Meeting - AGREED Everyone should use easy-to-understand words with no jargon
During the Meeting - AGREED All members and visitors should raise their own amber card if someone is talking too fast or using words that aren’t easy to understand as well as supporting service users to do so
During the Meeting - AGREED Name cards will be used
After the Meeting - AGREED Croydon People First will produce a single sheet summary of each Board meeting immediately after the meeting
General We AGREEDto tell more people about the forums that feed into the Partnership Board (carers, people with learning disabilities, providers) so more people know about them and can get involved.
HOW?? • Any ideas now? • Let Lye & Nicky know about any ideas by Friday 24th Jan 2014
Before the Meeting We AGREED it would help service users understand what’s going on and help them really be involved if we had a longer (1 hour) pre-meet.
Before the Meeting We DECIDED having a longer pre-meet on the same day as the meeting would make it too long
Before the Meeting We have an hour long pre-meeting about a week before the Partnership Board meeting …………VOTE…………
Option A We have an hour long pre-meet a week before INSTEAD OF the 30-minute pre-meet on the day … so just ONE pre-meet
Option B We have an hour long pre-meet a week before AS WELL AS the 30-minute pre-meet on the day … so TWO separate pre-meets
VOTE • OPTION A – ONE pre-meet about a week before the meeting • OPTION B – TWO pre-meets. One for an hour a week before; one for 30 minutes on the day
