The Cell Cycle. INTERPHASE :. G 1 - cell growth, the longest part of the cell’s life S – DNA synthesis, DNA is copied (replication) G 2 – cell prepares for division, organelles replicate. MITOSIS : nuclear division. PROPHASE :

INTERPHASE : G1- cell growth, the longest part of the cell’s life S – DNA synthesis, DNA is copied (replication) G2 – cell prepares for division, organelles replicate
MITOSIS: nuclear division PROPHASE: • Longest phase of mitosis • DNA coils and chromosomes form, sister chromatids are held together by the centromere • Nuclear envelope and nucleolus dissolve • Centrioles migrate to the poles • Spindle forms
PROPHASE: Animal cell Plant cell
METAPHASE:chromosomes line up at the equator Plant cell Animal cell
ANAPHASE: spindle fibers pull the sister chromatids apart Plant Cell Animal Cell
TELOPHASE: Spindle dissolves Nuclear envelope and nucleolus reform DNA uncoils forming chromatin
CYTOKINESIS: cell division, 2 daughter cells form Plant cell: new cell plate forms in the middle Animal cell: cleavage furrow forms, cell pinches inwards
Onion cells – find cells in the following phases: Prophase, Metaphase, Anaphase In the next slide also find interphase and telophase.
