  1. Senior Capstone Project

  2. What is it? • A year-long research project on the topic of your choice • Career-based • Community service-based • Academic-based

  3. What do I have to do? • Choose a topic and write a proposal for that topic • Locate a mentor • Spend 25 hours outside of school under the guidance of your mentor • Learn as much as you can about your topic from online sources, from your mentor, and from books, professional journals, films, and other texts.

  4. What do I have to do? • create and maintain a blog as documentation of your field experience • Write a reflective paper based on your field experience • Create a physical project that demonstrates the knowledge and experience you acquired through completion of the field experience • Write a research paper based on a specific area of your topic • Give a formal presentation, with multi-media support, to a panel of teachers, staff, and community members.

  6. Timeline • Proposal due Friday, Sept 2 2016 • Mentor contract due October 2016 • Blogs checked periodically over 1st and 2nd semester • Research paper due February 2017 • Product due April 2017 • Presentations begin April 2017

Community-service based project example • NOTE: Many service organizations and healthcare facilities require volunteers be at least eighteen years of age and/or require a long-term commitment from volunteers. It is especially important that you look into these potential restrictions before you decide upon pursuing a service-oriented project.
