2. World War Two World War Two lasted six years from 1939 until 1945. These years were very gloomy because of all the devastation. Homes and lives were ruined , especially homes in cities, as bombs were dropping all the time.

3. Evacuation • Children used to be evacuated because of the war so they were taken to safety in the countryside. Evacuation meant you had to leave your families and because the children had to leave there families, it was a sad times.

4. Rationing Rationing meant everybody got exactly the same amount of food as everyone else . The government invented ‘Dig for victory’ because not everybody grew vegetables. Clothes were brown , black and grey.

5. Jobs • Men who were too old or too young to fight joined the home guard. There were lots of posters for the women’s land army and lots of other jobs.

6. Entertainment • People listened to the wireless which was made of wood. They played music by people by Vera Lynn and Bing Crosby whose lyrics cheered people up. Rich people had better wirelesses than poor people.

7. Anderson Shelters • Anderson shelters were used in air raids as protective huts away from the bombings. When the Nazis come over , they dropped bombs so you had to hurry into the shelter.
