The captain tells you the nearest ship offering help is 8 hours away. But the expectation is that the Titanic will sink within 3 hours in the ice cold water. The panicky message following these messages is this: there are not enough emergency boats for everybody on board! Find a way to save the different groups of people until help has arrived.
