  1. Principles of Play

  2. Principles of Attack • Width- When a team is in possession of the ball it has to use all the area available in which to play • Depth- The player in possession of the ball must always have several option to pass the ball forwards and back

  3. Width • By attacking down the sides of the pitch/court, the defenders are forced to cover a larger area allowing more space in the penalty boxfor the attackers to exploit.

  4. Depth • When attacking it is important to have passing options. Players forward and behind the ball.

  5. Depth • In badminton depth in attack is important, so the whole length of the court is covered when an attacking opportunity arises. A front and back set up is used to provide depth.

  6. Width, Depth & Mobility • This piece of play has all the principles of attacking play.

  7. Defensive Principles • Delay in defence-Thisprinciple of play is where you have to hold up your opponent by not diving in to the tackle (jockey them), to allow your team mates time to get back and defend.

  8. Depth in defence • This principle of defensive play, is where you have cover behind players, in case they get beaten by the attacker.

  9. A Zone defence allows players to cover team mates, to create depth in defence.
