Project A6A3-03-01 AS 94900 Aerospace - Flight Control Systems, Design, Installation, and Test Of Piloted Military Aircraft, General Specification For Sponsors: Henry Harschburger and Dave Flavell • Background • There is an industry need for a comprehensive flight control system specification with details similar to MIL-F-9490 and lessons learned • MIL-F-9490D was issued in 1975 and was reaffirmed in 1992 • However, it is still a very useful document. Tailored versions are being used on the F/A-18, V-22, and RAH-66 Comanche • Government representatives have agreed to participate with Committee A-6 in development of an Aerospace Standard for flight control systems A-6A3 Sept 03
Project A6A3-03-01 • AS 94900 • Scope. • This specification establishes general performance, design, development and quality assurance requirements for the flight control systems of military manned piloted aircraft. Flight control systems (FCS) include all components used to transmit flight control commands from the pilot or other sources to appropriate force and moment producers. Flight control commands may result in control of aircraft flight path, attitude, airspeed, aerodynamic configuration, ride, and structural modes. Among components included are the pilot’s controls, dedicated displays and logic switching, transducers, system dynamic and air data sensors, signal computation, test devices, transmission devices, actuators, and signal transmission lines dedicated to flight control. The interfaces of flight control systems with related subsystems are defined. A-6A3 Sept 03
Project A6A3-03-01 AS 94900 • MIL-F-9490D will be the baseline, with additional information and lessons learned from recent government and industry documents • Major Tasks : • Assemble an ad-hoc working group • Provide a Microsoft Word version of MIL-F-9490D to the working group • Review MIL-F-9490D • Status of applicable documents • Identify sections requiring major updates • Identify new topics/sections to be added • Format baseline document in SAE format • Incorporating changes • Ballot to Panel A-6A3 Sept 03
