What makes up the Circulatory System? • Heart • Blood Vessels • Blood
The Heart An organ that pushes blood throughout the circulatory system. • Made up of two pumps: • Pump to the lungs to pick up oxygen & drop of carbon dioxide • Pump to the rest of the body to drop off oxygen & pick up carbon dioxide.
The Heart • Label the parts of the heart: • Right Atrium • Right Ventricle • Left Ventricle • Left Atrium 4 1 3 2
Blood Vessels • Arteries: vessels that take blood away from the heart. • Strong walls • Veins: vessels that carry blood back to the heart. • Thinner • Capillaries: connects arteries with veins.
The Blood • Plasma • Red Blood Cells • White Blood Cells • Platelets
Plasma Liquid portion of the blood that contains proteins, glucose, hormones, gases and other substances.
Red Blood Cells • Carries oxygen from the lungs to the rest of the body.
White Blood Cells • Fight infection by attacking disease-causing organisms.
Platelets • Large cell fragments that help form blood clots.
