Conrad • Grandchild of slaves, born and raised in Baton Rouge, LA • Completed his medical training at Meharry Medical College • in Nashville, TN • After serving in the military, moved to Dallas in 1955 and • began his medical career at St. Paul Hospital • As a promoter of education in Texas and Dallas, promoted • free-lunch programs for low income students • First African-American elected to DISD Board of Trustees • One of the first members of the State Board of Education
