  3. Supplies Needed for School School does provide most items • 3-Ring Binder/wide-rule paper • Old sock – eraser for dry erase marker • Fine tipped dry erase markers • Mechanical Pencils • Highlighter • Blue Pen • Flash Drive

  4. Homework Policy • Daily expectations 30–40 minutes to an hour of homework every day, not including reading. • Students are responsible to have your signature every night on their binder reminder. • Homework expectations following an absence – for a one day absence, homework assignments are due the day after the student returns to school. For absences of more than a day, they will have the number of days missed to complete the homework. • Your child is expected to read for 20-30 minutes every night.

Homework • Every afternoon a student copies the homework assignments for the day into the Teacher’s Homework binder. • All students will write their assignments in their binders. • If a student leaves school early or misses part of the assignment, it is their responsibility to get the assignment from the homework binder.

  6. Classroom Organization Binders, Desks, Progress Reports • Students place all papers in an appropriate folder in their desks or put them into a 3-ring binder. • There should not be any loose papers in the binder or in the desk. • Binders will be checked periodically. • Progress Reports – Behavior, Work completion, AR Points, and areas of success and areas of challenges.

Mini City • This is part of the classroom organization and incentive plan. • Students choose new jobs every two weeks and receive a full salary if they do their job well. • Money they earn can be used to buy a classroom/playground prize. • Students keep a personal checkbook register and learn to keep write checks, fill out deposit slips and record on a register page.

School Rules School Rules : • Playground Rules: • Follow directions from all school adults. • Be respectful with words and actions. • Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself. • Kicking balls and football is restricted to the field. • No playing by garden or KOC. • Cherry balls, footballs, soccer balls, and other balls of similar size may be brought from home. No tennis balls, baseballs, softballs, racquetballs, etc. • No closed games. • No balls against classroom walls. • Baseball hat must be worn forward. • Play in designated areas only. • No students in the hallways during recess and lunch. Students must remain behind yellow lines. If you need help, see a supervisor or Peace Patrol.  Sandbox Rules: • Do not throw sand. • Do not play chase or run in the sandbox • Do not walk under the equipment. • Only one person on the overhead ladder at a time. • Go in one direction only on the overhead ladder. • Only one person down (not up) the slide at a time. • No 4th and 5th grade students on playground equipment before school. • No sitting or standing on the bars. • Tire Swing – No more than three students on the swing at a time. Stay seated for a count of 30. One person pushes. Line starts on sidewalk. • Swings – Count forward swings to 30, and stand to the side and tell the person you are counting. • Do not jump off of swings.

  12. 4thGradeCurriculum • Reading : Using Fiction and Non-Fiction—Main Idea, Problem/Solution, Cause and Effect, Making Predictions, Author’s Purpose, Fact/Opinion, Compare/Contrast. • Writing: Response to Literature, Summary, Personal Narrative • Math: Number Sense, Algebra, Integers, Geometry, Measurement, Place Value • Science: Electricity, Magnets, Rocks and Minerals, Plant and Animal Adaptations, Landforms • Social Studies: Californian History– Political, Social, Economic and Cultural Aspects. • TFK- non fiction reading

  13. 5thGrade Curriculum • Reading: Using Fiction and Non-Fiction--- Main Idea, Problem/Solution, Inference, Character Analysis, Author’s Influence, Fact/Opinion • Writing: Persuasive, Narrative(3rd person), Response to Literature. • Grammar: Sentence Structure, Verbs, Prepositions, • Math: Number sense, Place value, Fractions, Decimals, Geometry, Measurement, Integers, Math Reasoning, Algebra, Data Analysis • Science: Weather, Human and Plant Systems, Matter, Elements. • Social studies: Early American History. Political, Social, Economic and Cultural Aspects • TFK – non-fiction reading

  14. Grading • I will drop the lowest quiz grade for each subject ineachtrimester. • Spelling and grammar are graded within writing assignments. • Accelerated Reader is incorporated into the reading grade. Each student should accumulate 5 points per month if they are reading at grade level. • 90%-100% - 4-Exceeding Standards • 89%-75% - 3 – Meeting Standards • 74%-60% - 2 – Below Standards • 59% and below – 1- Below Standards

Accelerated Reader GOALS • Home and school reading incentive program. • Encourage independent reading and expose students to a wide variety of genres. • Hopefully, students in 4th and 5th grade will earn at least 80 points through the year. • Classroom goal is 5-8 points each month per student.
