STRATEGIC PLANNING BACKGROUND • Defines an organization’s strategy or direction. • Government Performance Results Act (GPRA) of 1993 • Requires quarterly performance assessments of Government programs for purposes of assessing agency performance and improvement. • This includes publishing a Departmental: • Strategic Plan, • Annual Performance Plan, • Annual Financial Report, and an • Annual Performance Report. • The GPRA Modernization Act (GPRAMA) of 2010 • Updated performance assessment requirements, established Department performance improvement officers and the Performance Improvement Council (PIC) • Update Strategic Plan within 1 year of Presidential inauguration
