  7. MORE RESPONSIBILITY • Students are expected to do more on their own • They’ll be responsible for: • Good attendance • Planning a study schedule • Adjusting to new school rules • Homework • Planning a path of study & classes • GPA counts!! Grades go on a TRANSCRIPT as a permanent record

NECESSARY SKILLS and ATTITUDES • Advocacy: asking for what you need • Organization: get a planner, record homework assignments, write down test dates & project deadlines • Study skills: note-taking, studying at home and school • Time management: balance your academics and activities • Resist peer pressure • NHS has zero tolerance for bullying, fights & disrespect

  20. HONORS COURSE REQUIREMENTS • A’s or B’s in current core classes • CSAP Scores (Mid-Proficient or above) • Teacher Recommendation • STUDENT MUST REQUEST THE CLASS ON THE COURSE REGISTRATION FORM AND PARENTS MUST SIGN THE FORM Make sure the name and # match!!

  23. SPORTS AT THE COLLEGE LEVEL Ifstudents are planning to compete in sports at the college level, they must meet NCAA eligibility requirements. http://eligibilitycenter.org *Not all high school courses are NCAA approved. See the NHS website for more information.

  24. Completing the Registration Form • Refer to the checklist on the back of the form • Fill out Registration Form completely. All boxes should be filled. List alternates in priority order in the boxes on the lower half of the form. • Requires a parent / guardian signature. • Forms for Sunset students are due Friday, February 10th. Requests will be entered in computer labs at Sunset. • Forms for students from other middle schools are due to NHS no later than March 1st
