Ben Catt Halo: Reach
Basic Information • Developer: Bungie Studios • Publisher: Microsoft Game Studios • Genre: FPS • Price: $59.99 for the standard edition • Required Hardware: Xbox 360
Story • It's the year 2552 and you play as a spartan in Noble Team, which is sent out to more difficult missions that need to be completed. It takes place on the planet Reach, where the covenant are mounting an attack to gain vital military information.
Player's Role • Campaign • Completing certain objectives which generally amount to defending or securing a certain point • Multiplayer • Killing the opposite team • Attacking / defending a base • Capture the flag • Don't turn into a zombie
Scoring • Campaign and Firefight • Free for all vs Team • Multiplayer • Slayer • Oddball • King of the hill
Sound and Music • Original soundtrack • Sound quality is top notch • Weapons have unique sounds • You can often hear someone coming up behind you • Different sounds for far away or behind you
Special Features • Armor Abilities • Sprint / Roll • Jet Pack • Active Camo • Armor Lock • Drop Shield • Hologram
The Good • Lots of gametypes • Forge lets you create gametypes and maps • More replayability than previous games • Unlockables • Daily / weekly challenges • Campaign is difficult but beatable
The Bad • AI in campaign can be buggy • Limited gametypes in matchmaking • More will be added once they are sure everything is working as planned • Lots of redone maps from halo 2 • May not be a bad thing though
How does it compare • One of the best known brands in FPS • $200 million first day sales for a reason • Very in depth and competitive multiplayer • Appropriate audience • Rated M so older audience than some games
Design Mistakes • Melee System • Scoped pistol only slightly worse than DMR • Powerful grenades
Summary • Strengths • High replayability • Lots of gamtypes give variety to gameplay • Weaknesses • AI in campaign • Design choices • Reuse of old maps • Definitely worth it to purchase • How to improve: • More gametypes / maps • Reconsider some balance issues, namely melee speed
