The aim is to draw attention to the importance of good hydration in a care setting. Good hydration enables service users to enjoy a good quality of life, and prevents many illnesses which can often lead to hospitalisation. The week will provide a range of important information for carers, social care professionals and service users, plus training aids to further raise awareness across the whole care sector. This year Dehydration Week will take the theme of Tea Dances and breaking the cycle of Dehydration in Older People. The week will culminate with a sponsored event in Leeds showcasing best practice linking good hydration and exercise. Derek Johnson – NACC Immediate Past Chair said “After the success of the last year’s initial week it is good to see the week becoming a fixture in the social and health care calendars. It is vital we promote hydration where ever possible, drinks are so easy to access and we need encourage those we care for to drink more than they do.” James Allred – Channel Manager, Cost Sector, Unilever Food Solutions – added: ‘We are delighted to support the NACC in this strong initiative to highlight and bring extra awareness to this so often neglected area of nutrition. By supporting the week through one of the country’s most well loved brands, PG tips, and backed up by ‘Monkey’ we hope we can bring the importance of good hydration and exercise to the fore in a fun and engaging way and, most importantly, to help make a positive impact to residents and those in care.
