  2. Vocabulary Words #1 • Technology • What is it? It is the use of science to solve practical problems. • What else is it like?, machines, inventions, equipment, tools. • What are some examples? Pencils, watches, iPods, computers, tractors, and MP3 players.

  3. Vocabulary Word #2 • Microprocessor • What is it? It is the microchip that controls the functions and activities of every computerized device. • What else is it like? The Brain, memory, the action of each computer or computer like device. • Examples: CPU Central Processing Unit, memory chip,

  4. Vocabulary Word #3 • Ethics • What is it? Ethics are the principles and standards we use to decide how to act. • What is it like? Beliefs, Values, codes of conduct, and morals. • Examples: Be fair, Share, Help others, Polite,

  5. Ethics of Being Fair • Work Face to Face, • Can’t see expression or tone • Golden Rule, Treat Others as you want to be treated. • Chat rooms, email, files, can be used as cyberbullying.

  6. Ethics of Your Fair Share • Computer Piracy • Federal Crime • Stealing other People’s work or programs • Need Funds to develop new programs or games

  7. Ethics of Computer Use • Respect the privacy of others • Do not open any files or e-mails that are not your own or without permision • Do not change settings, names, files of others.

  8. Ethics of Honesty • Be Honest • Do Your Own Work • Give credit to others for their clip art, quotes, and ideas.

  9. Ergonomics • Study of equipment for safety and design. • Position of your body • Position of your equipment • Comfortable and Safe

  10. Computer Safety • Study tables and chairs • Power Cords and cables • Correct lighting, reduces glare • No Food or Drinks, or Gum.

  11. Acceptable Use • AUP – Acceptable Use Policy What you can or can’t do. • Files, Folders, Personal in ThawSpace • No Email, Face book, My Space, YouTube, etc. • No downloading of Programs, music, etc
