cardiffmet.ac.uk/HEAR Implementing the HEAR at UWIC [now Cardiff Metropolitan University] Dr Jon OwenHEA Associate [formerly Academic Registrar at University of Wales Institute, Cardiff] Friday 27th April 2012
Starting points • already issue QAAHE (national) transcript / Diploma Supplement as a matter of course for all taught programmes (includes marks for all modules) • explanatory text available separately to support the transcript • good links with the Student Union • straightforward to convert the transcript / Diploma Supplement into a(n almost) HEAR • decided at the start as a policy to have no hand-editing of the HEARs: always produced automatically from our student and academic information system(s)
Possibilities for inclusion in 6.1 • prizes • sabbatical officers • volunteering? • student reps? • final year project or dissertation titles? • when are they decided? who types them in? section 4? • societies? • all posts included? who authorises? where is information held? • representing Cardiff Metropolitan University? • at what level? sports? appearances? exhibitions? verification? • graduate attributes?
4.3 Programme details, and the individual grades, marks and credits obtained drilling down to modules, then assessment components actually quite straightforward: information exists already for examining boards how best to present it? {who will actually look at this?} codes for assessment types or description of assessment? how much space used / reader interest? an approved taxonomy of assessment types links through to module descriptors on the web (for a given year)
Points for reflection… information for section 6.1 “drilling down” to assessment components design format: fixed or variable length? catalyst to improve existing ad hoc procedures possible use of XCRI for programme information well-documented requirements for Agresso to implement Welsh translation of HEAR / ACAU template information on the Web (see title page)
