Project Aims and Objectives • To offer an efficient and cost effective solution to beet logistics. • Maximise recovery and delivery of paid yield. • Harvesting • Storage • Cleaning • Delivery • Implement the findings of the study. • Utilise the resources and experience already present in the industry where ever possible.

  3. Current Position • Transport now part of new agreed BS/NFU IPA agreement • Voluntary, limited pilot scheme agreed for 2010 • Pilot sites are Newark and Wissington. • Ex farm contract, BS arranged haulage • Harvesting option also available • Linked to haulage option only

  4. Next Step • Letter to all growers following these meetings • Provide details of pilot transport scheme and harvesting option. • Growers requested to respond with expression of interest • Preferred movement dates • Preferred cleaner loading options • Feedback to growers expressing interest • BS to access level of interest by end of April and discuss with NFU

  5. BS Offer • Load/clean/deliver grower’s beet • Transport allowance not paid to growers in scheme. • Transport managed and paid by BS • Co-ordinate the harvest and delivery logistics • Agreed collection schedules • Agreed terms and conditions • Harvest growers crop at an agreed rate/ha • Linked to Haulage option for 1st year pilot. • Additional haulage charge to growers >50 miles

  6. Contractors Letter • Letter to contractors early April • Detail of pilot scheme • Contractors requested for declaration of interest in participation in pilot scheme • Equipment and services available • Declarations of interest reviewed by end April

  7. Contractors selection • Based on: • Expression of Interest • Able to offer services at the required level • Geographic location • Previous experience • Efficiency • BS/Contractors to sign off agreed contract

Pilot scheme year 1 • Aim will be to form balanced delivery group • Volume • Geographically • Logistically • Progress reviewed with NFU • Growers who will be involved in scheme and those who we are unable to offer the service to in the 1st year will be advised ASAP (during May). • Growers who will be involved in scheme will receive a contract before the end of July

  9. 2010/11 Campaign pilot scheme Limited in year 1 to 15-20% site tonnage Wissington min. Requirement 200KT Newark min. Requirement 100KT Transport pilot scheme will operate on same allocation and call up terms and conditions as all other beet

  10. Pilot summary BS send out full information pack early April Growers and contractors register interest by end of April Growers and BS agree (reviewed by NFU) and sign a contract in July BS produce a delivery/harvesting schedule by end August and share with NFU
