SIGNS OF ABUSE • Come early • Leave late • Sad • Very loud < > very quiet • Rocking, sucking, biting , ticks, compulsions, phobias
CONTRIBUTING FAMILY FACTORS • Domestic violence • Young teems > parents – lack of experience • Alcoholism/addictions meth 90% addictive 1st time using • Lack of job • No parenting training/skills • Unclear boundaries – frequent coming/going • Sexual abuse
How Schools Can Help… • Clear codes of conduct • Be a role model • Call police if in danger • Recognize the signs • Follow reporting procedures • Improve self-image of student • Institute child abuse awareness programs
