  1. Zambia Training Camp December 27th – 7th

  2. What its about? 10 Days great training Learn and develop as individuals Be out of comfort zone and learn to cope in differing environments Great facilities used for free A once in a lifetime opportunity

  3. Where We Will Stay?

  4. Proposed Itinerary

  5. The Details....

  6. Travel to and from airport • Swimmers will meet at airport as some may be coming from family homes over Christmas • Lift shares can be encouraged outbound and inbound • Lifts the other side will be organised for us by the OYDC

  7. Flights Option 1 - £1041 including taxes

  8. Additional Costs • Accommodation: Free ( Normal Price £55 PPPN) • I have organized free accommodation at the OYDC Olympic Development Centre though a contact of mine who works closely with the IOC (Olympic Organising Committee) he has promised to up security during our stay and will organise transport from the airport and any other transport we need. • Pool Hire: Free ( 10 lanes ) • The pool is at the same site as the accommodation and I again I have secured 10 days worth of pool hire for free. This is in exchange for us teaching some local community children how to swim and having the National Zambian team training with us while I coach all of the swimmers. This will be great for our swimmers and theirs and its a 10 lane 50m so there will be loads of space.

  9. Coach Flight Costs + Insurance As I am willing to coach out there and impart  some of my knowledge to their swim team the IOC have funded my flight so there is no cost to be encountered for the swimmers.  Insurance get own I normally get Boots £25 world traveller cover

  10. Team Manager Obviously as we are travelling to a developing country I thought for the comfort of those at home it was good for me to look at the team manager in detail. A colleague of mine Rob Day who I met in Zambia who is British and living in the UK working as head of PE is willing to take on the TM role. He lived and worked for sport in action in Zambia my charity i work for for 3 years. He knows the area we are travelling to the security required and is up to speed on everything. He is willing to complete risk assessments for the trip and area and asks only for a £400 contribution towards his flight. He is willing to take the level 1/2 ASA team manager courses as required however I felt it was best we find someone who had significant experience of the area and get L1/2 team manager qualifications rather than have some one with a L1/2 and no experience of the area.

  11. Actual Costs

  12. Security • Both organisations involved sport in action and the OYDC have given us their full commitment on security we will have not only Rob and myself but a local Zambian sport in action member with us at all times, Rob has to leave on the 4th however Ross Davenport Jo Jackson and Becky Adlington will have joined us then and will be travelling back with us so this gives us more ' support staff'' additionally the Zambian guide will still be with us

  13. Immunisations • Swimmers need Malarone tablets on a daily basis these cost for that duration around £1.90 each tablet and u need 2 prior to departure 10 for the duration and 7 on the return. These have varying prices and if u shop around u can get them cheaper. Other jabs u can get from local doctors and u will need to consult Doctors as to what they advise u need.

  14. Selection Process:  • Letter of interest by tomorrow • Interviews Monday • Considerations: • Maturity • Performance • Current training commitment • Work load capabilities

  15. Parent Considerations • Animals • Non predictable • Enter at own risk • Mosquitos • Food

  16. In closing this is a once in a lifetime trip and I fully trust the charity I work for to look after us safely, i wont  be able to wangle free pool time and accommodation for so many again.... And this without wangle would be a £3000 trip  lol!! swimmers can raise money to cover there costs as they are going to out to assist communities out there. I ask swimmers raise a Minimum £100 for SIA in a bid to contribute to their on going work out there. They will be involved in the launch of the project also that bike Africa raised funds for which will be a big Zambian event, that will be supported by Becky Ross and Jo . furthermore be training with the Best swimmers in Zambia

  17. Every time I have been to Africa it has changed me in a positive way, there will be challenges with the environment however this is what the experience is about, being able to go anywhere and cope learn and develop. I have been to Zambia now 6 times and its a second home to me and I want to share its wonder with the future... And smash up 10 days of great training!!
