This retrofit is replacing 175 watt metal halide lamps with 125 watt metal halide. At 50 watt savings per lamp, 467 lamps, result is 23.35 KW reduction in power consumption.
During F/Y 11-12 we installed an additional 255 occupancy sensors in 9 buildings These sensors not only control normal lighting but also control lighting traditionally left on at night
We continue to install and maintain energy efficient lighting that accents the beauty of our campus at night
The PowerSave Campus program empowers college students to be tomorrow's energy efficiency leaders. It is a student-driven energy efficiency education program that promotes careers in the field, generates actual energy savings, increases awareness of the importance of energy efficiency, and encourages academic infusion of sustainability concepts.
PowerSave Campus Program Goals • Realize measurable energy savings through research into and implementation of energy efficiency best practices, educational campaigns, and facilitation of retrofits o Includes water conservation projects as they relate to reducing energy consumption • Build pathways to green careers through trainings, mentorships, internships, volunteer opportunities, and project-based learning • Promote energy efficiency outreach through educational campaigns • Infuse energy and energy efficiency concepts into academic curricula Interns pass out postcards for office and classroom energy audits. PowerSave Interns trade CFL’s for energy conservation “commitments”.
Completed the 1st EPSC in 2002 • Christmas Break “Conservation Vacation” 2008 • WKU adopted an Energy Policy in 2009 • Completed the 2nd ESPC in 2012 • Partnered with JCI with the initial rollout of Panoptix Fall 2012
