Each sentence contains 4 errors. • She didn’t have no homework for her Summer break so she went to florida. • Even though, she does all of her chorres her mother wouldn’t let her go to the party. • At the age of 16 she went to get her driver’s licence; It take her three times to pass the test. • Jordan joined the milletary, when he graduated from high school but he soon wished that he had gone to college in stead. • people need to learned from the passed, and spread love instead of hate.

  7. 37R-L – Root Diagram--Assignment: Working with a partner you will have 20 minutes to chart out the roots ANTE-, HYDR- and ASTR---Use a dictionary to help you find words that contain your root.

Helping Quartet • Read over the thinking questions. • Take 5-7 minutes to answer the thinking questions on your own. • As you are answering the thinking questions, I will walk around and assign you as an A, B, C, or D person. • Person A will have 60 seconds to share his or her answers while Persons B, C, and D are taking notes on what Person A is saying. • Next, Person B will share and Persons A, C, and D will take notes. • Person C will share next. • Person D will share last. • You will have 60 more seconds to ask any a question about what they said and clarify your notes. • Last Once everyone has shared, you will answer the questions on the back independently. We will share your new knowledge on the research process as a class.

Helping Quartet Expectations… • When Person A (B, C, or D) is talking, there should not be any other talking from the quartet. • Person A (B, C, or D) must talk for the entire 60 seconds. • When it is not your turn to share, you will write down notes on what Person A (B, C, or D) is saying, especially if it is something that you did not fully understand. You also want to add notes on ideas that go beyond what you previously thought. • The name of this activity is HELPING quartet, so purpose is it help one another and expand your understanding of the research process. • Make certain that you are being respectful towards your classmates by not interrupting them and paying attention to them when they are talking.

Glossary Check • Plot exposition, rising, climax, falling, resolution; sequence of events that take place in the story • Exposition in the beginning when the author introduces the setting, characters, plot • Climax the life-changing moment for the main character • Conflict the main problem in the story • Resolution when the problem (conflict) is solved • Characterization the details/descriptions of the characters • Theme moral or what point the author is trying to make; what you learn from the story • Foreshadowing when the author gives the reader hints about what is going to happen next, and the reader can make predictions

Glossary Check • Plot beginning, middle, and end; storyline; the sequence of events • Exposition when the characters, setting, etc. are introduced • Climax when there is a change in the main character’s life • Conflict the main problem in the story • Resolution when the conflict is solved • Characterization the characters’ traits and details (STEAL) • Theme the main point the author is trying to tell/teach the readers • Foreshadowing when the author gives a hint or suggestion about what will happen next

Glossary Check • Plot the events that make up the story (beginning, middle, and end) • Exposition the beginning of the story where we find out the setting, characters, POV, etc. • Climax the problem is building up; the main character has some life-event happen • Conflict the main problem in the story • Resolution the solution to the issues in the story • Characterization the thoughts, feelings, actions, and traits/qualities of characters • Theme lesson or moral that the author is trying to teach to the reader • Foreshadowing when the author gives clues to what’s going to happen next

  13. (page 38L) Plot Diagram • As a class, we will read a short story called “The Third Wish” (page 125). Open your Reader’s Notebooks to page 125. • Complete and tape the plot diagram on page 38L in your interactive notebooks. • Complete the questions on page 132 (#1-4). Tear this page out of the Reader’s Notebook and tape it on top of page 38R.
